Attachments

When we are cleaning our house, its always very easy to sweep away obvious rubbish and dirts. But what about those that's behind the shelves or any place that's less open.

For a Buddhist, our common homework is to be detached to desires. And I say its detachment to pleasure. Most of us know why we need to. But how about attachments to the negative feels and thoughts?

Had some discussion with someone regarding her unpleasant experience with her lecturer, not a very helpful lecturer. So I remark the lecturer is smart with his knowledge but not so with his teaching methods. Interesting thing I observed is these friend of mine jump in to defend her lecturer. These very lecturer she complains minutes ago, she is now defending him!

From my point of view, its the evocation of self. We always like to gain ownership to things and is brought about due to delusion of having a self, believing in a self. We are all too used to using I, we, mine, these are mine. And with that, we attached to things consciously and subconsciously. That includes negative feelings.

Also, for all you know, we can also be attached easily to the notion of avoidance to negative feelings and yes that's attachment that causes ignorance. To summarize, we should see things as they really are.

May all beings be well and peaceful. Sadhu Sadhu Sadhu.

Seek not to attain Buddhahood in the present life,
Nor to attain enlightenment.
or even to escape from sufferings.

Here we are in the this samsaric sea,
Due to our karmic afinity.
Establishing goals of the future,
is the manifestation of attachments.

Rather,
embrace the present moment,
mindful of all actions and thoughts,
Better ourselves as we progress through life.
